Join WRCMS for our 2018 inaugural concert, an evening of improvisation headlined by the Region’s bass clarinetist Kathryn Ladano and Ottawa/UK’s percussionist Colin Frank (winner of the WRCMS 2017 Contemporary Performance Prize). Come for the concert, bring your instrument and stay for an open improvisation soirée, and enjoy some great food and drinks (including a special custom cocktail!).

Featuring alumni and winners of the WRCMS 2017 Contemporary Performance Prize Sara Constant (flute), An-Laurence Higgins (classical guitar), and Malina Rauschenfels (cello), joining WRCMS from Toronto, Montreal, and Cleveland to present their favourite works by contemporary composers.

Featuring Montreal’s acclaimed Ensemble Paramirabo premiering a new work by Bekah Ann Simms (WRCMS Composition Mentor), as well as performing works by Jimmie LeBlanc, Nicole Lizée, James O’Callaghan (WRCMS Electroacoustic Mentor), and WRCMS composition participants selected as part of our 2018 Call for Scores.

Vanese Smith produces and performs experimental electronic music under the name Pursuit Grooves. She has led workshops at Off Centre DJ School (Toronto) as well as the EQ program at Canadian Music Centre (Toronto). She is featured in the 2018 Spring issue of MusicWorks Magazine highlighting her extensive creative history as well as her most recent and 12th album Felt Armour. Smith is a sound artist and interweaves a number of genres while seamlessly incorporating found sound and cinematic effects. She is also a DJ and a visual/graphic designer (MO:delic Arts).

Come enjoy the Apollo’s terrific space, have a beer and some popcorn and relax to the sounds of Toronto’s saxophonist Chelsea Shanoff and Montreal’s composer/vocalist Gabriel Dharmoo. Featuring improvisations and works by Gabriel Dharmoo, Bekah Simms, David Lang, Symon Henry, Jennifer Walshe and Cory Harper-Latkovich.

Come meet the fine artists representing the next generation of contemporary musicians in Canada and abroad. This is the core of WRCMS, where you get to hear the premiere of eleven new works and two structured improvisations composed and performed by WRCMS 2018 participants.
